Bedbugs have been reported from all types of accommodations, including sleeper coaches in trains, camper vans, ships, dormitories, and rooms in hotels and hostels of any standard. Despite the absence of evidence that bedbugs are related to poor hygiene or low socioeconomic status and despite many dozens of studies proving the absence of disease transmission, bedbugs have retained their stigma of poverty, filth, disgust, and disease. The associated shame by human hosts now partly prevents the analysis of why bedbugs are currently spreading and increasing in numbers.
