A group of tiny marine animals, commonly known as sea daisies, which are closely related to sea stars (Asteroidea). The Concentricycloidea include one genus, Xyloplax, with three widely distributed species: X. medusiformis from New Zealand, X. turnerae from the Bahamas and X. janetae from the northeast Pacific Ocean. Concentricycloids occur in the deep sea at abyssal depths between 1000 and 2700 m (3280 and 8860 ft) and have been found only on sunken wood. Historically, Xyloplax has been encountered rarely, with species described in 1986, 1988 and 2006. See also: Asteroidea
