The examination of contested documents for purposes of civil or criminal law. Forensic document analysis, or forensic document examination as it is often called, is one of the oldest fields of forensic science. In North America, it gained notoriety during the early 1900s largely through the efforts of Albert S. Osborn and other founding members of the American Society of Questioned Document Examiners.
