Reinforced concrete structures are used in numerous water and wastewater applications, including solar-heating reservoirs, cisterns, catch basins, water tanks, water towers, small reservoirs, sewage treatment and collection systems, and swimming pools, to name a few. The design of water structures is no different from other structures except in the care about water-side sections and the quality of concrete in order to avoid reinforcement corrosion and water leakage by controlling cracking. The control of cracks can be achieved by using adequate concrete cover, limiting the maximum stresses in tension steel, and using well-distributed smaller deformed reinforcement bars over the zone of maximum concrete tension.
