Recently, cloud computing has become very popular and has emerged as a widely accepted computing and service paradigm. Although cloud computing has been widely adopted, the research on cloud computing is still at an early stage. An Internet data center (IDC) is a common system for hosting cloud computing. However, the power consumption of these data centers is having a huge impact on the environment. A number of state-of-the-art research techniques have been proposed for improving data-center energy efficiency. The aim is to reduce energy consumption and at the same time provide the desired quality of service (QoS). Green cloud architecture (GCA) is an IDC architecture that aims to reduce data-center power consumption. The advantage of this architecture is that it guarantees real-time performance, while saving in the total energy consumption of the IDC. The GCA also helps consolidate the workload and achieves significant energy savings for the cloud-computing environment. This architecture was created to address the issues in the cloud-computing environment, such as improving resource use and reducing power consumption. One of the challenges of this architecture is how to make scheduling decisions for performance-sensitive applications, such as online gaming servers.
