Mobile WiMAX refers to a new mobile broadband radio access technology, based on IEEE 802.16 standards, which has gained significant attention and momentum over the past few years. Motivated by the success of the Internet and WiFi, the data communications industry created Mobile WiMAX to promote a paradigm shift in traditional telecommunications cellular service offerings and in the ecosystem. The new paradigm is based on low-cost and Internet-friendly solutions for wide-area networks to enable innovative applications, services, and business models.
