In recent years, natural gas has become increasingly plentiful and has been shown to have a cost advantage on an energy basis compared to jet fuel refined from oil or other feedstocks. This is especially true in North America, but technological advances in natural gas production are likely to be deployed worldwide, leading to an extended era of abundant and relatively low-cost natural gas. Natural gas enjoys a significant cost advantage over conventional jet fuel, even when the cost of processing natural gas to liquefied natural gas (LNG) is considered (Fig. 1).
