Plant root hair cells [root epidermal cells characterized by polar growth (Fig. 1a)] are emerging as a single cell experimental system by which to study plant cell biology at a systems level. This simple model is very attractive for investigating the response of a single plant cell type to various abiotic and biotic stresses. The integration of biological data collected using high-throughput technologies from isolated root hair cells and the use of innovative bio-informatic tools represent unique opportunities for understanding plant cell complexity.
