The chemistry of the sulfides is rather simple inasmuch as most sulfide minerals involve only two major elements, although some involve three and a few four. Understanding of the phase relations among these minerals is important both to the geologist, whose task it is to locate and exploit ore deposits and to the metallurgist, whose task it is to extract the metals from the ores for industrial use.
