The dimension of the physical universe that orders the sequence of events at a given place; also, a designated instant in this sequence, such as the time of day, technically known as an epoch, or sometimes as an instant. While time is objectively measurable and quantifiable (Fig. 1), the dimension of time as a fundamental phenomenon and/or property of the universe remains a source of great debate in theoretical physics.
