The Transition Region and Coronal Explorer (TRACE) explores the dynamics and evolution of the solar atmosphere from the photosphere to the corona with high temporal and spatial resolution. The TRACE Observatory produces images of the Sun in the ultraviolet and extreme ultraviolet regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, corresponding to a temperature range from 5 × 103 to 2.5 × 106 K. Flare plasma at 2 × 107 K is also imaged when present.
