A cereal grass plant (× Triticosecale) obtained from the hybridization of wheat with rye. Triticale (Fig. 1) is a crop plant with a small-seeded cereal grain that is used for human food and livestock feed. Plant breeders developed triticale by artificially crossing wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale cereale)—hence, the cereal's taxonomic designation as × Triticosecale. The European continent dominates the production of triticale, producing 90% of the total crop. Countries with the greatest production are Poland, Germany, Belarus, and France.
