Dionaea muscipula, a diminutive and increasingly rare carnivorous plant with snap traps. Although placed in the Droseraceae, the Venus' flytrap species (Fig. 1) and Aldrovanda vesiculosa (waterwheel) diverged from the group at least 65 million years before the present and assumed highly modified leaves that actively capture and digest prey (Fig. 2).
