Disorders of form and function that affect the eye. Eye disorders and diseases are pathological conditions of the eye. Some conditions can result in vision loss and even blindness. In contrast, others are less severe and temporary, being resolved by medications, corrective lenses, or common medical procedures. In general, disorders of form affect the way that the eye looks or feels, whereas disorders of function affect vision (Fig. 1). Normal vision requires proper performance from the entire visual system, from the precorneal tear film to the occipital cortex.
